Please take 30 seconds to cast your vote (one per household, please) for the neighbors who have graciously offered to serve on the Mount Vernon Woods Community Association board next year. The voting window will close on December 7, so tend to this task as soon as possible. Thank you, neighbors!
Ahead of the Sparkle Parade and tree lighting at City Springs, stop by our neighborhood's annual meeting, this Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church Kirk Center (directions below). During the meeting, we’ll discuss upcoming capital improvement projects; review the 2026 budget (there will be no increase in dues); introduce the 2026 Board of Directors; and have time for Q&A. You can submit a question here.
Directions: Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church is located directly south of our neighborhood at 471 Mount Vernon Hwy NE, and the Kirk Center is on the back (Johnson Ferry Rd.) side of the building. Park near the playground, and we’ll have volunteers ready to direct you inside.

One of our neighborhood’s most beloved traditions, holiday caroling, will happen the evening of Sunday, December 21. There are two ways to get involved in this festive event.
Click here to join our caroling crew. We'll gather at the Carlsons' home at 5:30 p.m. for sweets and a bit of practice before heading out to sing for a handful of neighbors. Don't worry if you can't carry a tune—all are welcome!
Or, sign up to have the carolers visit your home by texting Holly at 314-570-1176. All you have to do is open your front door and enjoy a bit of merriment as we sing a couple of songs for you.
Neighborhood alert: unauthorized bow hunters in Mount Vernon Woods
Two young men in a gray pickup truck have been going door to door in our neighborhood asking for permission to bow hunt deer on private property. They have stopped by homes on Cherry Tree Lane, Heritage Way and Sentry Hill Trail. They falsely claimed to have permission from a homeowner on Cherry Tree, who has confirmed they did not give any such permission. They’ve also mentioned wanting to hunt on MVW common property, but the Board has not been contacted or approved this.
Bow hunting in a residential area is dangerous and illegal. Missed arrows can easily injure kids, pets, or anyone outdoors. Our homes and yards are too close for this kind of activity, and entering private property without permission is trespassing.
If you see these individuals or anyone else attempting to hunt in the area, do not engage. Instead, call the police immediately and try to note the vehicle description or license plate number.
Let’s keep Mount Vernon Woods safe for our families, pets, and wildlife.
During the summer, MVW Community Association President Kimberly Oliver announced that an understanding had been reached by Mount Vernon Woods, Aria West, and the Mount Vernon School regarding the school's development plans for its 40-acre Upper Campus, which would have included stadium lights on Ron Hill Field. However, at the October 21 Sandy Springs City Council meeting, Ms Oliver announced that the talks have failed due to demands by the school that the neighborhoods found unacceptable. Watch the video below for all of the details. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Kimberly Oliver by sending an email to mvwpresident@gmail.com.

Our food drive was featured in the Rough Draft Sandy Springs newsletter.
Our 2025 food drive was a smashing success. Nearly 75% of our neighborhood participated, and we collected an incredible 1190 pounds of food, toiletries, and diapers. The Community Assistance Center staff was incredibly grateful, as always, for our help restocking their shelves. The Rough Draft Sandy Springs newsletter mentioned our neighborhood's generosity in the edition posted September 19. Hopefully we can inspire other Sandy Springs neighborhoods to do the same. Thanks, neighbors!
Amenity improvements: new pool deck
We've recently completed a big project at the pool: a refreshed concrete deck. Crews fixed low spots and cracks and laid a fresh deck around the pool and baby pool. The finished project looks great! Special thanks to Paul McCabe, our pool chairperson, who headed up this complicated project, and Jan Hodgson, who lent her design expertise to the decision-making process.
Amenity improvements: resurfaced courts, refreshed bathrooms
Keeping our neighborhood amenities in great shape is a high priority, so we’re happy to share that recently:
The bathrooms at our tennis and pickleball courts have been improved with fresh paint and new cabinets.
Drainage issues surrounding the courts have been resolved and the walkways now have fresh rock.
The work to resurface and reline the courts has been completed.
